This bamboo is known as "Half Black" because black areas form at the base of young culms. These black patches usually fade with time. It is used for edible shoots and hedges. In China its split culms are woven into mats. Collected in 1926 by F. A. McClure from Chiwhwashan, Anhwei Province, China.
