Bamboo culms
I am the heat of your hearth, the shade screening you from the sun;
I am the beam that holds your house, the board of your table; I am
the handle of your hoe, the door of your homestead; the wood of
your cradle, and the shell of your coffin. I am the gift of God and
the friend of man.
There are bamboos with all sorts of culm colors, sizes, shapes, etc. The colors of the ones we can grow fall into three main groups: Green, Yellow and Black. There are variations on the primary colors and the color will vary depending on the amount of sun the culms receive. Some culms will have stripes of a contrasting color and some are solid colored. You can also find bamboos that have persistent culm sheaths that give the culms a distinctive two-tone appearance. Culms can have distinctive crooks, kinks, internodes, nodes, culm texture, etc. The varieties on the left give a good starting point for selecting a bamboo that has the characteristics that may meet your needs.
