Container grown bamboo

Bamboo in container

Practically any bamboo can be grown as a container plant if the container is large enough for the variety.

Container grown bamboo will usually be smaller than the ratings listed for the variety, unless the container is extremely large. Containers can be buried in the ground, used for the patio or in a select location in the landscape or garden to add just the right touch to any project.

Select the largest container possible; the larger the variety selected, the larger the container needs to be. If you choose one of the tropical varieties, be sure to select a pot that you can move inside during the winter if you live in a cold winter area. Pots for in-ground use should have drain holes smaller than the rhizome to prevent escape. For the yard, patio, or garden just about any sturdy pot or container can be used. Again, choose a container with drain holes smaller than the rhizome to prevent escape into the ground.

We like the varieties listed on the left for container growing, but use your personal preference to select your container grown bamboo and enjoy.
