Resembles Phyllostachys bambusoides except that the culms of this bamboo are thinner walled. Culms turn yellow with a few narrow green stripes. There is a white powdery band beneath each node at sheath fall. It is the most cold hardy of the large timber bamboos and establishes quite quickly. Shoots are excellent for eating. A very attractive ornamental.
Very rare.
