Phyllostachys edulis "Moso" also called Phyllostachys pubescens and Phyllostachys hetrocycla pubescens. A running bamboo with a distinct groove above pairs of branches at mid-culm nodes. Produces fewer but larger culmes than most other Phyllostchys varieties. All Moso has on and off years for shooting and a two year leaf replacement cycle. The largest of the hardy bamboos. Shoots earlier than our other Mosos but it is still a juvinal plant. Young culms are covered with a velvety coat of soft hairs. It is one of the most used bamboos in China where it is used for food, timber, paper, plywood, flooring and many other things. MidAtlantic Bamboo started this Grove in Nottoway, Virginia in 2004. The orginial plant was from a seed started in 2001. Avaliability of shipping size divisions is sometimes limited because Moso does not want to product small culms.
